Our Story
Since 2007 HPM Consultants are serving the construction industry with the aim to find remedies to complexities that often lead to disputes. The growth of HPM from a small boutique firm to a multi-national organization that serves clients all over the world is intertwined with my own personal journey. Let me share the story with you.
My journey to the complex but fascinating world of delay analysis started by accident. As the construction manager of a flagship government sustainable office development, I was faced with a dilemma. Many delays ranging from very poor soil conditions to significant owner initiated changes plagued the project. How do I ensure that these delays are dealt with and analyzed in such a way that it is transparent and fair to both the general contractor and the owner?
As part time professor and researcher, my first thought was to turn to the scholars dedicating their time to construction-related research, who most likely would have answers for me. After a comprehensive review of the literature available my hope for a quick solution was dealt a blow. The information available is fragmented, contract-specific, or delay-event specific; and the guidance provided for all the steps required in this complex process.
With no solution in sight, there was only one option remaining. I had to develop a framework for guidance for the assessment of delay claims. To ensure my guidance framework would be able to address the current knowledge gap in the industry I decided to expose it to the rigor and testing of a doctoral research process. After the conclusion of the research process, the next step was to ensure that the research does not gather dust in the pages of a doctoral thesis but serves its original purpose to help construction industry professionals to transverse the many complexities in the process of analyzing delay claims.
Since its development, the new simplified delay analysis method was presented at several international research and industry conferences. It also featured as the topic of training courses presented to industry organizations in several countries. To be able to help more people the next logical step was to make this new method available in the form of a book. The book is now available in 16 countries around the world and has recently been chosen as OFMs business read of the week.
My journey as a delay analysis expert withness exposed me to fascinating projects around the world. Nowadays I am spending my time sharing my knowledge on delays, informally with anyone willing to lend me an ear, and formally as an expert witness and adjudicator.
The success of the new simplified delay analysis helped to grow and springboard HPM onto the international stage. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by a team of like-minded professionals at HPM that share my passion for finding remedies for the most complex problems.
